facebook data breach - more than 50 million accounts affected |
In a post by Vice President of Facebook on post online he said, "On Tuesday afternoon our engineers team discovered a security issue affecting about 50 million accounts.
"We are taking this issue seriously and wanted to let everyone know what has happened. Our investigation is in early stages".
Let me make it clear that the hackers attacked and exploited a vulnerability in Facebook's code that impacted "view as", a feature that enables you to see what your own profile looks like in others accounts.
This allowed them to steal the Facebook access tokens which they then used to take over people's accounts.
Access tokens are the equivalent of digital keys that keep people logged into Facebook so they wont need to enter their password every time they use the app.
CEO Zuckerberg said that attackers would have the ability to view all the private messages on someone's account.
This hack attack is the latest setback for Facebook in a year of security problems and privacy issues. So far, there is no one to significantly help the confidence of the global 2 billion users.
